Another small post for another small state: Delaware!
In-Depth Insights
After serving as a senator for the state for 36 years, Joe Biden handily won Delaware by a 19-point margin. He significantly improved on Hillary Clinton’s 11-point win and in the process flipped Kent county, home to Dover. While he lost rural Sussex county to Trump, Biden still managed to reduce Trump’s winning margin in the county by about 10 points. To Trump’s credit, he was still able to garner about 40% of the statewide vote, most of which came from rural voters. Hearing from his supporters underscores how politically segregated the state has become; many of his voters were so separated from Biden’s base that they were under the impression that Trump had a real shot at beating Delaware’s native son:
“You drive around up and down the state, you see Trump signs all over the place.”
“I don’t think people realize the silent majority is as large as it really is.”
