Yep! I think most of us weren't thinking about the migrations as a political play during the pandemic. (And of course we weren't because we had more important things to worry about!) But in retrospect it's undeniable that his invitation to out-of-state conservatives both secured him a second term and created a launching pad for his presidential run. It's part of what makes him such a terrifying candidate in comparison to Trump: Trump seemed to 'fail upwards' into the presidency whereas DeSantis is ascending due to deliberate political savviness.
